(4) 'The Ancient Court House' A beautiful half-timbered Edifice with Cotswold tiled roof and most substantially built, was the seat of the Surman family for upwards of four centuries.....' Documents state that in 1625 Hall Place [Tredington Court] was leased to Thomas Surman (1574-1647) who appears to have brought the freehold soon after. The Court was eventually occupied by Thomas's 3rd son John (1625-1688). Two branches of John's lineage intermarried 148 years after his death, that is John Surman of Gt. Malvern and Elizabeth Goodlake in 1837. There were no children from this marriage and all property passed to William Mansell a nephew. (6) Coat of Arms for this branch of the family 'Yet in my flesh shall I see God' is to be found in St. John's Church, Tredington.
